Exploring Economic Systems Course Description/Overview: (8th grade only)
This course is comprised of four instructional modules designed to provide project-based instruction to explore the economic systems in an international economy. The four modules covered explore economics and economic systems, four types of economies, supply and demand, stock market, e-commerce, the Federal Reserve, and the United States economic system. Students also participate in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities. Language arts and mathematics are reinforced. Students will participate in a Stock Market Game simulation (for details see www.stockmarketgame.org) as a collaborative project. Course content includes: 1-Compare different types of economic systems: traditional, free enterprise, command, mixed, 2-Interpret supply and demand graphs, 3-Explain how the Federal Reserve, stock market and e-Commerce impact the U.S. economy, 4-Understand the United States economic system.
Exploring Business Procedures and Leadership Course Description/Overview: (7th grade only)
This course is comprised of a series of instructional modules designed to provide project-based instruction in business procedures, employment and leadership. The three modules covered are appropriate business procedures, requirements for seeking, gaining, and maintaining employment, and leadership skills. Students also have the opportunity to participate in activities to demonstrate workplace readiness skills. Language arts is reinforced. Students will participate in a Stock Market Game simulation as teamwork project (for details see www.stockmarketgame.org).
Course content includes: 1 Understand Appropriate Business Procedures, 2-Understand Requirements for Seeking, Gaining, and Maintaining Employment, 3-Understand Leadership & Team Building.
Exploring Keyboarding and Basic Word Processing Course Description/Overview: (6th grade only)
Why is Keyboarding important? In this course students will learn how to "Touch-Type" & Basic Word Processing Skills. Computer skills is an important 21st Century skill that students must know and use in their every day lives. If students know how to use the computer effectively, then it's easier to get things done quickly. Students will also learn how to use software programs and hardware devices properly. These tools help learners finish tasks such as homework, quizzes, conduct research and essays. Microsoft Word is the major software application used in this course. Students will also learn Digital Literacy through Everfi; which teaches students how to be good Digital Citizens. Students are encouraged to use EduTypingJr. to practice at home/free-time. Course content includes: 1-Keyboarding Techniques, 2-Word Processing Basics and Business Correspondence.
Exploring Personal Characteristics and Careers Course Description/Overview: (6th grade only)
This course is comprised of two instructional modules designed to provide project-based instruction in self-awareness, understanding the world of work and the career planning process. The two modules covered explore how interests, attitudes, values, personalities, learning styles, and skills influence career choice. Students have the opportunity to learn and participate in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) leadership activities, community service.

The following items are required of all students. These materials are expected to be in class every day. Students are advised to have all supplies in class by no later than the Monday of the 2nd week of class this is to allow for any schedule adjustments. An informal (participation/homework) grade will be given.

Grading Policy
Students will be held to a high standard as a Career and Technical Education student. It is EXPECTED that all students will complete class assignments, projects and presentations (individual, group and/or team related), and homework by the deadline. Their grades will reflect the work accurately completed and submitted. Missed or absentee work is required to be made up IMMEDIATELY upon return for a grade, failure to do so will be reflected in the student’s grade.
Formal Grades = Projects, Assessments, Exam – 65% of grade
Informal Grade = Classwork Assignments, Homework Assignments – 35% of grade
Classroom Expectations
Students are expected to enter the classroom quickly and quietly, then immediately take their assigned seats and begin working on their assigned classwork assignment. Students are required to remain in their seat and raise their hands during class instructional time. Students will be expected to adhere to the Mint Hill Middle School Miner’s Path during class. Failure to comply will result in the associated Miner’s Path Consequences. ALL STUDENTS MUST follow school policy as stated in the school handbook.
Tardy Policy
Students are required to follow the Mint Hill Middle School Tardy Policy requiring that they arrive to class on time. Any late arrivals must have a late note from teacher/school staff prior to entering the classroom.
10 Minute Rule
Students are not permitted out of class during the first 10 minutes or the last 10 minutes of each class period as school policy.
